My students need to read...MORE! Not just shared reading or reading to respond to an article. That reading is important too, but just more. The reason, is to help them with their editing and revising skills. To be confident in both...reading and writing.
Here is my new brilliant idea.
We discovered Educreations from a class blog I follow. On this App, you draw a math problem/strategy, and then record your voice explaining what you did. You can add pics to help make your mathematical reasoning.
For reading, we will take a picture of a text, add it to the Educreation page, and record while reading it.
My students will do this, so far, in a few ways. One with a piece of reading to practice WPM. They will have the original in a plastic sleeve, and when they replay their recording, they can circle the words they missed. They can save these recordings, to see their progress later.
The next way we will use this, is for their WRITING. When they think they are done (either with a whole draft, or even paragraph at a time), they take a picture of their paper, record their voice reading it. Finally, play it back while reading from their original paper. They can pause the recording, and edit as they go.
I have new ideas for editing every week... and I am excited to try out this one.
